December 17-18, 2007, London, United Kingdom
www.smap2007.org
Postdoctoral Vacancy info!
The Doctoral Consortium is a special event within SMAP 2007 exclusively for doctoral students. It provides a unique opportunity for doctoral students to explore their research with experienced SMAP researchers and other students. In this way, the Consortium offers participants:
| |
- a forum for receiving valuable feedback on their
current research and guidance for future
progress from international researchers outside
of their own universities,
|
| |
- a supportive and constructive environment, and
|
| |
- the possibility to network with other doctoral
students and established researchers working in
similar areas.
|
Participants will have their papers published in the SMAP 2007 proceedings and will be required to present their work in a single session before the main Workshop (December 16, 2007), so that participants are able to fully attend the main Workshop. In addition, a report summarising the contributions of the Doctoral Consortium participants will be made available after the end of the Workshop and will appear in the SMAP 2008 proceedings. All Doctoral Consortium participants will be eligible for a discount on the normal Workshop registration fee.
Who Can Participate?
Submissions are invited from students registered on doctoral programmes who are conducting research in an area relevant to SMAP and who do not expect to complete their doctoral studies before the dates of the Workshop. For more information about relevant topics, please see the main conference call.
Submission Details
Submissions must consist of:
| |
- the submitted paper (max. 4 pages, including all
figures, tables, and references), and
- a letter of support from the student’s primary
thesis advisor/supervisor (max. 1 page).
|
Submitted papers should describe the research being conducted by the doctoral student, including background, aims, research methods, and any research results obtained to date (if applicable).
Papers must be authored solely by the doctoral student. Papers must be formatted according to the instructions given in the main conference call (but please note the reduced maximum length for Doctoral Consortium papers).
The letter of support from the student’s primary thesis advisor/supervisor should be included at the end of the paper (as a fifth page) and must clearly indicate that they give their permission for their student to submit a paper to the Doctoral Consortium and that they support the submission. The letter of support may also contain a brief statement emphasising what they believe their doctoral student will gain from attending the Consortium and the main Workshop (this is encouraged and, if present, will be considered by reviewers when reviewing the paper).
Papers must be submitted electronically via the SMAP 2007 website. All submissions will be reviewed by the SMAP 2007 Doctoral Consortium Committee.
The accolade of Best Doctoral Consortium Paper at SMAP 2007 will be awarded by the Doctoral Consortium Committee based on the outcomes of the reviewing process.
